Langwarrin Mens Shed

The Langwarrin Mens Shed was established in 2012 and originally based at the scout hall at Lloyd Park. In 2015 we moved into our current premises on Cranbourne Road. We are a community group located in the Langwarrin area that offers men who may have retired, or become isolated due to circumstances, or just simply have time on their hands, an opportunity to continue to participate in group activities and a means for them to engage with the local community.

Mateship

The modern Men’s Shed is an updated version of the shed in the backyard that has long been a part of Australian culture. Men’s Sheds are springing up all around Australia and internationally. A place where a mates working together can learn new skills and share experiences about life with other blokes.  Our Shed provides a safe and busy environment where men can participate in an atmosphere of old-fashioned mateship.

Activities

If you looked inside you might see a number of men making furniture, perhaps restoring bicycles for a local school, making possum boxes, or creating lead light displays. You might see tea-bags, coffee cups and a comfortable area where men can sit and talk. You will probably also see an area where men can learn to cook for themselves or learn how to use a computer.

Wellbeing

Members of Men’s Sheds come from all walks of life – the bond that unites them is that they are men with time on their hands and would like something meaningful to do with that time. Good health is based on many factors including feeling good about yourself, being productive, contributing to your community, connecting with friends and maintaining an active body and mind. Importantly, there is no pressure. Men can just come and have a yarn and a cuppa if that is all they’re looking for.

Community

Directly associated with the Australian Men's Shed Association, which in itself is a part of a global movement devoted to the improvement of Men's social health and well being around the world. A good Men’s Shed has a safe and happy environment where men are welcome to work on community projects, or specific Men’s Shed projects or perhaps a project of their choice in their own time and where the only ‘must’ is to observe safe working practices….all in a spirit of mateship.
